What They Do: With more than 265 processing plants, ADM converts corn, oilseeds, cocoa, wheat and other crops into food, feed, and fuel. According to the website Seeking Alpha, ADM "essentially works as a middleman between farmer and consumer." In 2012 they recorded over $90 billion in sales.
What They Produce: Beverage alcohol, baking ingredients, cereal ingredients, emulsifiers, lysine, soy starches and proteins, lecithin and corn sweeteners for chocolate-making, meat processing, beverages and flavored dairy products. Its sweetener products include corn syrups, high-fructose corn syrups, maltodextrin, crystalline fructose and dextrose.
ADM also makes animal feed pre-mix that is produced in Dalian, China, for livestock, poultry, dairy and aquaculture. In 2005 ADM opened a trading office in Shanghai to manage specialty food ingredients such as soy isoflavones, lecithin, xanthan gum, acidulants, vitamin E and cocoa products.
ADM also is a world leader in cocoa, cocoa powders and chocolate products, as well as a major international supplier of rice, including long, medium and short grain.
